Conventional designation of planets in astrology. Planet symbols

20.09.2019

Let's continue talking about the basics of astrology. And today we will consider zodiac and planets. The zodiac is the arena of planetary action. The planets move along a narrow strip of the ecliptic. The zodiac circle has clear boundaries. This happens because the rotation of the planets in the solar system and the Moon around the Sun occurs in the same plane and for us, observing this process from the Earth, celestial bodies are seen in a narrow belt of zodiac signs.

The 12 signs of the Zodiac are equal sections of the ecliptic, 30 degrees each. The visible one of the Sun along the celestial sphere is the ecliptic. The movement of all planets in the solar system occurs along the ecliptic.

The zodiac has a beginning - a point spring equinox(TVR) March 21, it is the beginning of the sign of Aries.

The point of the summer solstice (SLP), when the day is the longest day of the year in time, corresponds to the beginning of the sign Cancer - 21.06.

The winter solstice point (WSP), when the night is longest and the day is shortest, corresponds to the beginning of the sign Capricorn - December 21.

The vernal equinox point (VEP) is actually now located at the very beginning of the sign of Pisces at the end of Aquarius.

For almost 2000 years, this point walked along the constellation Pisces. The period of time when the vernal equinox occurs in a certain constellation is called the epoch (period) of that constellation. The vernal equinox point gradually shifts along the ecliptic.

TVR gradually moves into the constellation Aquarius, which is why they say that the Age of Aquarius is coming. If the era of Pisces was a symbol of faith and secrets, then the era of Aquarius will become a symbol of the revelation of these secrets.

Aquarius is a symbol of open knowledge, a symbol of astrology. I think everything that was secret in past centuries, behind seven seals, under the heading of secrecy, will become public knowledge and we will be surprised at many things. A full transition to the Age of Aquarius is possible as early as 2017.

As I already mentioned in my articles. Zodiac signs and constellations of the same name are different things, the same as astrology and astronomy.

The circle of constellations and the circle of signs are two different circles independent of each other. The circle of zodiac signs is tied to the seasons and is located within the solar system of the Tropical Zodiac. And the circle of constellations - the Sidereal Zodiac, is located outside solar system.

Let's return to our solar system.

The circle of zodiac signs is a circle of longitudes; each sign in this circle corresponds to a section of longitudes of 30 degrees.

The center of our zodiac circle is the Earth, man is the observer. From different signs Zodiac energy comes to the earth, differing in quality and properties.

We consider and deal not with the true movement of the luminaries relative to the stars, but with what is visible to us from our planet. The Sun and Moon move in the sky relative to the Earth in one direction. The planets revolve around the Sun, but in their apparent movement in the sky relative to the Earth they follow complex loops and trajectories. At times it seems as if the planets are moving in the opposite direction. This movement is called retrograde (backwards) and their influence on the Earth changes. The Moon and Sun are not retrograde. Direct planets act directly, immediately manifesting themselves in the outside world. Retrograde planets act differently and we will discuss what retrograde planets are in the next article, subscribe to.

A planet is a moving body. Therefore, although the Sun is a star, it is also a planet. The stars are fixed luminaries, the planets are moving. Each planet rules a certain sign and can manifest itself most clearly if it is in its own sign (in the picture above you can see which planet rules which sign). All planets move counterclockwise.

In astrology, there are a great many elements of the horoscope: signs, houses, stars, planets, fictitious planets, asteroids, Arabic points, major and minor aspects. If we take into account everything that we have when analyzing the horoscope, then it will be possible to find any events in the horoscope. Each destiny is individual and in order for us to see exactly this one in the map individual destiny, with its karma accumulated in past lives, it is enough to take into account the houses of the horoscope, 10 planets, the Black Moon and major aspects.

So, when constructing a horoscope, we take into account the 10 main luminaries.

Functions and properties of luminaries.

Planets are divided into internal and external. The inner planets do not move far from the Sun: the Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars, the maximum deviation of Mercury is 28 degrees, Venus moves away from the Sun at a distance of about 48 degrees no more. The outer planets are Saturn, Uranus, Pluto, Neptune, Jupiter.

Sun - Leo characteristic - the desire to occupy a central position. Describes the center of a person’s psyche, his inner self. Periods of luminaries passing through the zodiacal circle.

The Moon is the fastest planet, taking 27 days and 8 hours to travel through the entire zodiac. It stays in one sign for approximately 2.5 days.

Sun - the entire zodiac passes in 1 year. Changes from sign to sign once a month on approximately the 22nd or 23rd.

Mercury and Venus travel through the zodiac in about the same amount as the Sun in 1 year.

Mars moves through the zodiac every year and 10 months.

Jupiter 11 years and 10 months. There is a year in one sign.

Saturn moves through the zodiac for 29.5 years.

Uranus is a slow planet - 84 years.

Neptune - 165 years old.

Pluto is a slow planet and moves through the zodiac for 250 years.

The fictitious luminaries are the Black Moon - the most distant point of the Lunar orbit from the Earth, makes full turn for 8.85 years (you can find an article about the Black Moon by using the search on the site, or by going to the All blog articles page). The Ascending Lunar Node, the Descending Lunar Node, they are opposite each other at a distance of 180 degrees, the period of passage of the Zodiac is 18.6 years. They move in the direction opposite to the movement of the Sun and Moon. Let us clarify once again: the Black Moon and the Lunar Nodes are not luminaries, but special fictitious points in space.

The quality of the luminaries.

In astropsychology it is believed that the Sun, Venus and Jupiter are good planets. The Moon and Mercury are considered neutral planets. Mars, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, Pluto are considered evil planets by their properties and actions.

Last time we discussed. Today we will meet everyone the main symbols that astrologers use when drawing up natal charts. You will receive a list of designations of planets and Zodiac Signs, aspects and houses - and this will greatly facilitate reading an individual horoscope :)

I hope that the horoscope that you compiled for your child (or for yourself) using our service “lies before your eyes. Then you will immediately be able to apply the information received in practice.

For convenience, all symbols are summarized in one table, which you can download to your computer, print and study. Below are explanations for each of its sections.

Symbols of planets in a personal horoscope

The first column of the table is the symbols of the planets. Please note that for Uranus and Pluto can be used two symbol options. They are absolutely equivalent and depend on the preferences of astrologers and programs that make up individual horoscopes. Therefore, by and large, you can use any icon you like. But keep in mind that the horoscope constructed using our service uses the symbols that the pink arrows point to.

The letter R, also located in this column of the table, is retrograde planet icon. This icon can be located in a personal horoscope to the right of the planet designation. He says that the planet is moving retrograde (synonyms: the planet is in retrograde motion, the planet is in retrograde motion, the planet is in reverse motion). Our service, showing which planets are retrograde, marks them in red and does not use such an icon, keep this in mind :)

Also in the map built on , you can see an interesting icon that looks like headphones - like this. This is the symbol of the Ascending Lunar Node, or Rahu. At the beginning of your acquaintance with the horoscope, we agreed with you not to involve unnecessary information and to make do with only the most necessary and most important. That's why Lunar nodes We will not consider this in detail in our impromptu introductory astrology course for beginners.

Symbols of the Zodiac Signs in the horoscope

Let's move on to the next column of the table. Here the designations of all twelve signs of the Zodiac are given in the order of their location in zodiac circle: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces.

note that Capricorn has two icons, two characters that are absolutely equal. So you can use any of them. I personally am more accustomed to drawing a solid sign rather than a krakozyabr :) Therefore, when I build a personal horoscope manually, I use just such an icon. By the way, our service uses the same symbol for the sign of Capricorn.

Symbols of aspects in an individual horoscope

The designations of the aspects, which are given in the next column of the table, are displayed in the horoscope in the very center of the circle. More precisely, directly above those lines that connect the planets. Please note that our service does not use a connection icon. But he always gives squares and oppositions in red(these are tense aspects), and trines and sextiles – green(as harmonious). This will make it easier for you to remember the division of aspects, which will be a good plus at first when learning astrology :)

And the last thing...

Symbols of houses in a personal horoscope

We touched on this topic last time. Now we can only repeat it. Astrological houses– only 12 (like the signs of the Zodiac). When compiling a horoscope, they are usually numbered with Roman numerals - I, II, III, IV, V, VI, etc. - but this is not important. There are programs and astrologers who find it more convenient to designate houses in Arabic numbers, which are more familiar to us - 1,2,3,4,5,6, etc. If you prefer Roman, draw Roman; if Arabic, label it Arabic. The main thing to pay attention to is that there are four houses that may also have alphabetic characters. These are the so-called corner houses: 1, 4, 7 and 10. Their designations can be replaced with letters (see the table). By the way, this is exactly how our service displays these houses.

That's basically all for today.

Check your horoscope. Name one by one, showing on the map all the symbols present on it: planets, signs, houses and aspects. If you have questions, ask them in the comments.

If we consider the action of planets in astrology from the point of view of astral designation, then they have a strong influence on the essence of a person. The functionality of a planet directly depends on which zodiac sign it is observed in.
In astrology, celestial bodies have their own classification according to character, behavior and properties

Since the planets are the focus of the human psychic principle, the entire area of the sign will undergo activation depending on the passing planet. Each of the planets is reflected in the behavior of the sign, so its properties during this period can completely change.

Some of the symbols used in modern astronomy appeared in the Middle Ages as signs of alchemists and astrologers, but there are symbols of more ancient origin. They were used on star charts and indicated the days of the week and the metals that were supposed to correspond. Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. The symbols, which took their final form around the end of the 15th century, are listed below in their traditional order, together with the signs of those planets that were discovered more recently.

The disc symbol comes from an Egyptian hieroglyph. Among the alchemists, the sign also denoted gold and Sunday (Latin dies solis- “day of the Sun”), which the Romans dedicated to the sun.

The image of the Moon comes from an Egyptian hieroglyph. Among medieval alchemists and astrologers it was a symbol of silver and Monday (Anglo-Saxon topapyae means "day of the moon", a translation of the Latin dies lunae, hence the French lundi).

The Greeks called this planet Hermes, in honor of their god of trade, patron of shepherds and travelers, and also the messenger of the gods. In Rome they called him Mercury. The planet's symbol is a caduceus, the "staff of the messenger", with two snakes entwined around it. Alchemists sometimes used this sign to denote fast silver (as they called mercury) and medium (in Latin dies Mercurii, hence the French mercredi and Spanish miercoles). In biology, this symbol denotes any hermaphroditic organism, for example, earthworm, which has both male and female reproductive organs.

Venus is what the Romans named the second planet from the Sun, in honor of their goddess of love and beauty. The original symbol (the crossbar was added later to avoid giving the symbol a pagan appearance) is believed to have depicted a mirror or beads. For alchemists, the sign meant copper (mirrors were once made of copper). Of the days of the week, the sign denotes Friday (in Latin - ( dies Venerus, "day of Venus", hence the French vendredi, English Friday derived from "Frigg" or "Freyja", the Norse equivalent of Venus). The sign is used in botany and zoology to designate a female (or woman), and was introduced as such by the Swedish biologist Carl Linnaeus in the mid-18th century.

The circle and the cross (both signs are from Christian symbolism) began to be used to designate the Earth from the end of the 16th century, when the Earth was recognized as a planet on the list
Symbol of Mars Mars Because of its reddish hue, which the Romans considered similar to blood, the closest planet to Earth was named after their god of war;
The symbol of the planet represents the shield of the spear of Mars. It is also a symbol of Tuesday ( English word Thiesday comes from the name of the Teutonic god Tiu, who was identified with Mars: in Latin this day was called dies Martis, "day of Mars", hence the French mardi), The sign also corresponds to iron, the metal most associated with this god. Since the mid-18th century, this symbol has been used in biology to denote a male.

The symbol of the largest planet, named after the main god in Roman mythology, comes from the Greek letter zeta, Z. The Greek Zeus is the equivalent of the Roman Jupiter. The crossbar, which makes the sign look like a cross, was added in the early 15th century. to make the sign Christian. This symbol also means zinc and Thursday (English Thursday comes from "Thor's day", as translated from Latin dies Jovis, "day of Jupiter", hence the French jeudi. Both Jupiter and Thor were thunder gods. At one time this day was called Thundersday, “in the day of a thunderstorm,” hence the German Donnerstag). In biology, this symbol denotes a perennial plant.

For the ancient Greeks, Saturn was the most distant planet. The Greek philosopher Aristotle named it Chronos after the mythological ruler of the Titans and son of Uranus. The Romans named the planet Saturn, the name of the god of crops and patron of agriculture, who in their mythology took the place of Chronos. Saturn was depicted with a sickle or a scythe, the sickle is clearly visible on the sign. It was also a symbol of the Sabbath (English Saturday comes from dies Saturni, the day that the Romans dedicated to Saturn) and lead.

This seventh planet, discovered in 1781 by the English astronomer William Herschel, is named after greek god sky, wife of Gaia, goddess of the Earth. The given symbol means “Herschel’s planet”, it replaced the original designation, which strongly resembled the sign of Mars (the sign resembles two “Hs” - the first letter of the English spelling of Herschel’s name).

The trident is the symbol of the Roman lord of the waters, after whom the eighth planet is named. It was discovered by two German astronomers, Johann Galle and Heinrich D'Arrest, in 1846. Another symbol, a monogram of L and V, was created by French astronomers to commemorate Urbain Le Verrier, who calculated the existence and location of the planet where it was discovered.

The symbol of the ninth and most distant planet has double meaning: like a monogram of the first two letters of a planet named after a Roman god underground kingdom, and as the initials of the American astronomer Percival Lovell, who tried to prove the existence of this planet and in whose observatory this planet was discovered on February 18, 1930. By the way, Lovell called his unknown planet Planet X, and now all planets in the Solar System that have not yet been discovered are called that way.

Astronomical symbols

Natal chart (horoscope) - this is an astrological chart of a person’s birth built on a specific date, a specific time and a specific geographical place of his birth.

At the moment of human birth, each of the eight planets solar system (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) and two luminaries (Sun, Moon) are in one or another zodiac sign in one of the twelve (sectors in the horoscope resulting from the rotation of the Earth around its axis). Between the elements of the horoscope there are angular relationships (measured in degrees) called. The angular relationships between the planets (luminaries) and their position in the zodiac signs and horoscope houses mainly form the character of a person, and also determine his destiny.

In a person’s natal chart (horoscope), the planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) and luminaries (Sun, Moon) of the solar system are projected onto one plane, the center of rotation of which is the Earth (geocentric astrology). The Sun, Moon and personal planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars) are responsible for the personal subsystems of a person (ego, emotions, thinking, love + beauty, physical and sexual energy). The remaining planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) are considered social and modify the influence of personal planets through aspects with them and their positions in the houses of the horoscope. All planets fall into certain zodiac signs and (sectors resulting from the rotation of the Earth around its axis). The influence of houses in astrology is associated with the influence environment and society on a person in the process of his growth, education and development (accordingly, these are not innate, but acquired characteristics). The influence of zodiac signs, unlike the influence of houses, is innate and gives a person’s character innate characteristics and a certain type of temperament. The houses are counted from Ascendant- horizon points at the moment of a person’s birth and the beginning of the 1st house of the horoscope. The Ascendant describes a person’s personality (how he wants to show himself to other people) and in terms of the power of influence on a person is equal to the power of influence of the Sun and Moon. Horoscope point opposite to the Ascendantcalled Descendant. She is the beginning of the 7th house of the horoscope, which is responsible for partnerships and marriage. Descendant and its ruler (planet sign manager zodiac in which the Descendant is located) describe the sphere of a person’s relationships with other people and the sphere of marriage. All planets have certain angular positions between themselves (aspects) and the energies of the planets are modified by these aspects.

So, we have luminaries and planets located in Zodiac signs and houses and having aspects to each other (tense and harmonious). All this interacts with each other in a complex way and describes the character and temperament of a person, as well as his fate. The strongest elements of the horoscope in terms of influence are the Sun, Moon and Ascendant. The Sun is responsible for a person’s internal sense of self (ego), the Moon for emotions, and the Ascendant for personality (from the Old Russian word lychina, i.e. mask), which a person wants to demonstrate to others. Essentially, the Ascendant is the outer shell of a person’s personality, and the Sun and Moon are its contents. This three is the basis of a person’s character. It is believed (and quite reasonably) that in the Moon-Sun pair, the Moon is more manifested for children and women, and the Sun for men. The ascendant is equally strong in both men and women. It is by considering the position of the Ascendant, Sun and Moon, as well as aspects to these elements of the horoscope, that one must first begin deciphering natal chart. This is the basis of the horoscope, onto which everything else is then built upon when considering the natal chart.

Interpretation of all elements of the natal chart separately and the relationship with each other helps to recreate full picture personality, character and possible future of a person.

Decoding the symbols in the natal chart

In the outer circle of the natal chart there are 12 zodiac signs, the designations of which are as follows:

The inner and outer circle of the natal chart is divided into, each of which is responsible for a certain area of a person’s life (personality, material wealth, close contacts, family, love, etc.) The beginning of the first house coincides with the Ascendant of the natal chart As (the opposite point is Ds , Descendant). Another important point on the map is Midheaven MC (the opposite point is Ic). The As-Ds and Mc-Ic lines represent the main energy axes of the natal chart, are the beginning of the most important houses (1-person, 4-family, 7-marriage, 10-career) and are very important in its interpretation.
