Simple seascape in watercolor. Sea in watercolor

08.04.2019

Landscape is one of the most beautiful areas of painting. It is perfect for beginning artists to master, as it does not require the same precision of construction as people or animals. Among landscapes, it occupies a special place seascape.

It is always easier to draw a picture from life. Therefore, if you are not at sea, it would be nice if you have a photograph of the landscape that you want to draw in front of you.

It is best to paint with watercolors on special paper for watercolors, attached with push pins to a board placed at an angle. The buttons will prevent the paper from curling when it gets wet, and it will be more convenient to draw at an angle.

First of all, with a pencil you need to sketch out the main contours of the future landscape. It is better to make a sketch with a hard pencil so as not to leave thick lines that will later be visible under the paint. Things like the sun and clouds should not be drawn with a pencil at all, because they will be drawn with very diluted, transparent paint and pencil lines can ruin them.

We will only draw the horizon line and the outlines of the rocks.

After the sketch is made, the paper must be wetted with water so that it absorbs the paint well. In addition, wet paper can be used to make smooth transitions from one color to another. You should always draw from light to dark tones. The lightest thing in our landscape is the sun, and we start painting from there. Besides the sun, the brightest places in the picture are the reflection of the sun in the water and the sky around the sun.

After this, we paint the general background with a little darker paint. The sky, during sunset, takes on all the colors of the rainbow. Some of them, such as red or orange, are pronounced, but as the sky turns blue, it turns yellow and even green. If you paint a sunset from bottom to top, gradually mixing paint, starting with red and moving to yellow, then from yellow to blue and blue, then we will naturally get all the colors that are in the sky at sunset.

Try not to paint everything the same in one color. Always mix colors to make the picture painterly, but at the same time, make sure that the color does not become too muddy. You should have a palette on hand to try out colors.

At the same time, we paint the sea, because it practically reflects the sky and the sun, and it has the same colors. But when painting the sea, for now we focus only on its light colors.

After the general background is set, we draw clouds in the sky. Clouds, like the sky, can have different shades.

In order for the clouds to be voluminous, they must be divided into light and shadow. The side facing the sun should be left light, and the opposite side should be made darker. You can also darken some areas of the sky to make the clouds stand out more.

Then we switch to the sea. First, you need to highlight the horizon line. Directly under the sun, the sea is darker, but closer to the edges, on the contrary - the sky with clouds is darker than the sun. Since the horizon line is streaked with excess paint, it needs to be washed out and soaked with a brush like a sponge.

We also leave the middle of the sea light, and closer to the edges we thicken the colors. This is how the sun is reflected in the water. To draw waves dark paint It must be applied in separate strokes so that there are light spaces between them. At the same time, we must not forget that the closer you are, the larger the waves. Small waves in the distance can be drawn with chaotic strokes, but waves near are better marked more accurately. We will leave the foam of the waves near the shore light.

Along with the sea, you can also draw rocks. The rocks in the distance should be a little lighter and blurrier than those that are closer, so that the picture looks more natural.

In principle, the landscape is almost ready and all that remains is to draw small details, transitions from light to shadow on the waves and rocks. This can be done with watercolors, both by applying paint and by blurring it.

Don't forget, also very important rule in painting, you have to stop in time so as not to ruin everything.

That's it, dry your brushes.

Scenery - special genre painting. It combines the feelings awakened in the artist from the contemplation of nature, and the skill with which he conveys to the viewer the state of his soul. At this master class you have the opportunity to truthfully depict the living colors of nature and the beauty of a sunset at sea.
It is impossible to be able to do everything, although in contrast to this same phrase there is another, no less famous - “ talented person- talented in everything." It's hard to disagree. Perhaps, in reality, some things are easier for us, others more difficult. But the result depends solely on determination and desire to achieve the goal. Therefore, even being by nature a person of an absolute technical profession, who has never encountered creativity, you can learn to draw. For example, you can start by drawing a landscape.

In this master class, we will create together with you a landscape with a sunset on the sea.

For work we need

A sheet of white paper, A3 format (I use watercolor paper)
Gouache: yellow, orange, red, ruby, purple, black (gouache should be “live”, i.e. soft, the consistency of sour cream).
Brushes (I use synthetic brushes No. 3 and No. 1, sharp ones)
A jar of water.

Progress:

Select the layout of the sheet. It can be located both horizontally and vertically.
I placed it horizontally. Unlock all colors.

I've always loved watching the sunset.
The sun spills colors across the sky.
Today, like many years ago,
I'm immersed in this fairy tale again.

Using brush No. 3, draw a horizon line in the middle of the sheet using yellow gouache.

We begin to paint the sky with the same paint

Next, add a little orange to the yellow paint. We make a color stretch from yellow to orange

Add red paint to orange paint

Add ruby paint to the red paint (you can skip this step)

Add purple paint to ruby paint

Let's turn the sheet upside down and repeat all the previous steps.

Next, draw a black line along the horizon line

Let's draw the silhouette of the mountains

Let's paint over the mountains. I take purple and black paints on a brush

Using small strokes with brush No. 1, draw the reflection of the mountains on the water

Let's draw the silhouette of a yacht

Let's paint, draw a reflection on the water

Let's draw a mast. Let's just draw a straight line up

Let's draw a sail

Let's draw more yachts in the distance

The final touch - seagulls

Works of my pupils, 3rd grade students

As you can see, they showed their imagination - palm trees and dolphins appeared
More work, painted at summer camp today

All that remains is to frame the work under glass and the gift is ready. But that is another story.
This is how my artists are - satisfied and happy
Everything brings out the best in me...
Breathtaking from obsession...
And my heart sings with bliss...
For the body this is just a temptation...
Calling him to heroic deeds from afar...
You can't enjoy such beauty...
Sunset on the sea is Heaven on Earth...
You can fall in love without noticing...
And get sick of all this beauty...
I love the wonderful glow of the sunset...
The sunset really became like family to me...
I'll throw it away, I'll remove all doubts...
Everyone loved the sunset with their soul

WISH YOUR CREATIVE SUCCESS!

All painting lessons which are published in ours will help you acquire drawing skills. You will learn how to draw correctly using watercolor technique. Besides, step by step drawing watercolor paints will teach you how to select colors for a painting and apply different brush strokes.

Then you and I will begin to create more complex paintings using canvas and oil paints.

Today we will draw seascape: sea, rocks and waves.

How to correctly depict waves so that they seem real, how to convey their shape and volume? That's what we'll work on in this painting lesson.

I chose this photo.

On it, waves roll past the rocks onto the shore near the Seychelles Islands.

Pay attention to the color of the water, we must convey not only the shape of each wave, but also show the different depths of the sea and the sun that illuminates the rocks in the distance.

Let's draw rocks and water. Be sure to leave white spaces for foam on foreground paintings and around stones.

We draw rocks that rise above the water with a simple pencil, no need to draw them out too carefully.

Let's just outline the shape of the stones and be sure to draw a wave to the left of the stones, which rises up.

We begin to color the sky. The sky in southern latitudes has a rich color, so we will need purple paint.

We work with a thick brush, making broad strokes.

While the sky is drying, let's start applying paint to the water. For the sea we will need to make several different mixtures. The water on the horizon near the rocks is the darkest; for it we put blue paint on the brush.

The closer to the foreground, the lighter the water. Therefore, near the stones we paint stripes with a mixture of blue and dark green paint.

Dilute this mixture with water, add blue color and draw waves between the stones.

Don't forget to leave the white paper near the rocks unpainted; we'll end up with white foam.

For the water in the foreground, let's prepare a new mixture. We mix blue paint with grass green paint, dilute it well with water and use a thick brush to paint strokes that convey the shape of the waves that roll towards the shore.

Add turquoise color to the very tops of the waves.

Always test the color of the paint on the palette, and only then paint.

Try to achieve the shade you want, although it is not as easy as it seems. Sometimes you have to wash the paint off the brush and make a new mixture.

We leave the white foam in the foreground as is. You can only draw barely noticeable lines with a thin brush and leave the paint to dry.

Let's start drawing the rocks. Prepare several different mixtures at once: from gray to orange. It is best to paint stones by immediately painting them in different tones.

Then it will be much easier to convey the natural color of rocks that are in the shade and in the sun.

We continue to work on the rocks that rise above the water. We paint on a wet base with different mixtures of paints.

Don't forget to show those places on the stones that are poorly lit by the sun. To do this, use a thin brush to paint vertical stripes with dark shades of paint.

Now that the sky has dried, you can make its color more saturated. To do this, apply another layer of paint. While the paint is wet, add a blue tint to brighten the sky.

We return to the water again and draw the waves in the foreground. Prepare a mixture of blue and green paint.

You should have a turquoise mixture on your palette, we dilute the paint with water and draw waves.

Use a thin brush to make rounded strokes, going down from the tops of the waves. Using the same mixture, heavily diluted with water, we place spots in the foreground. Then water will begin to appear through the foam.

On the wave that rises to the left above the rock, we put dots in the same color.

Let's go back to the rocks and draw vertical lines so that some stones are visually separated from others. At the very tops of the stones, with a thin brush we draw the tips of the rocks; we need to convey their shape.

On some tops there is shadow, on others the sun falls. This must be taken into account when choosing shades.

We return to the water. For a more saturated color we will add another layer of paint.

Don't forget to show the depth of the sea and change the color mixtures as we did at the beginning of the lesson. The sea should look completely different on the horizon and in the foreground.

Now let's take a short break to let the paint dry.

It remains to draw the details so that our picture takes on a finished look. There is no need to rush, apply the paint gradually, allowing the first layer to dry.

Add to the tops of the rocks yellow, and on the water - shades of blue, green and turquoise. Green draw stripes in the center and near the white foam. Then the waves will visually rise higher.

In this lesson we will introduce you to how to draw the sea with gouache step by step in pictures and with a description. Will be introduced step by step steps, with which you will learn to draw the sea with gouache, like this.

You can draw waves on the sea if you understand how the wave moves. First let's draw the background. Draw the horizon line just above the middle. Let's smoothly paint the sky from blue to white near the horizon. You can draw clouds or clouds as you wish.

To make the transition smoother, paint part of the sky with blue paint, part with white, and then use a wide brush to mix the paint at the border using horizontal strokes.

We will also paint the sea itself with blue and white paint. It is not necessary to apply strokes horizontally. There are waves at sea, so it is better to make strokes in different directions.

Now mix green paint with yellow and add a little white. Let's draw the base for the wave. In the picture below, the darker areas are wet paint, the gouache just didn’t have time to dry.

On the green stripe, use a hard brush with white paint to distribute the movement of the wave.

Please note that the left part of the wave has already fallen into the sea, next to it is the raised part of the wave. And so on. Under the fallen part of the wave we will make the shadows stronger. To do this, mix blue and purple paint.

Mix blue and white gouache on the palette and draw the next falling part of the wave. At the same time, we will strengthen the shadow under it with blue paint.

Let's outline the front wave with white gouache.

Let's draw small waves between the big ones. Let's draw shadows under the near wave with blue paint.

Now you can draw the details. Spray foam along the entire length of the wave. To do this, take a hard bristle brush and white gouache. There should not be a lot of white gouache on the brushes and it should not be liquid. It is best to smear your finger with gouache and blot the tips of the brush, and then spray it in the area of the waves. It is better to practice on a separate sheet so that you can direct the splashes to a specific place. You can also use a toothbrush for these purposes, but the result may not justify the result, because... the splash area can be large. But if you succeed, then that's good. Don't forget, try the splashes on a separate sheet.

The question “How to draw the sea?” It’s not just artists who ask these questions. Almost everyone who admires marine species, wants to somehow capture this gift of nature, which just begs to be put on canvas. Or, at least, into the camera lens.

A little information. Landscape in art is a genre in which nature is depicted. Individual paintings are also called landscapes of this genre. The landscape can be urban - here nature has already been transformed by man to suit his needs, or, for example, rural. If the sea is depicted, then such a landscape is called a marina. And artists, accordingly, are marine painters.

So let me give you a few useful recommendations. In this article, our main task is to enable observation, as well as consider some laws of composition and color solutions.

1. Horizon

Do you know where the horizon is? Don’t read the answer right away, think, try to answer intuitively. In the distance, where the sky turns to sea? Or where does the earth end? Well, no. The horizon is always at our eye level. You can check it today on the street, especially if you are outside the city, where the horizon is clearly visible. Squat down, stand up - the horizon will move with you.

Where should it be placed on the sheet? In the middle? Not worth it. The answer to this question has long been found by artists. You need to decide what is more important (more beautiful, more interesting) - the sky or the sea? If it is the sea, then there is a larger place for it, and if it is the sky, then the sky. It’s better to solve the horizon issue using the so-called “rule of thirds”; try it, you won’t be mistaken. Divide the sheet into 3 parts vertically, draw two lines. If you are more interested in the sea, it will occupy 2 parts, if the sky - it. An excellent example: the third part is given to the sky, the third to the sea, the third to the beach (sand):

And here there is more sea:

Of course, the sky can also prevail, especially this:

2. Which is darker?

Before drawing a seascape, it is important for the artist to decide the question - what is darker, the sea or the sky? And stick to this contrast. Both the sea and the sky have blue shades, so the question is very important. And they solve it, as a rule, towards the dark sea.

3. Drawing the sky

Drawing the sky is quite simple - look carefully at the sky and you will understand everything. It is usually dark blue at the top, and gradually becomes lighter towards the horizon. As in the photo above. Therefore, we simply gradually add lightness to the sky; sometimes it is almost white below.

4. Clouds

They are usually depicted as white. First, luscious strokes are usually made with white paint without water or solvent. Then, downwards, they can be smoothly rubbed into the sky with a very dry brush (another) or the bottom of the clouds can be made light purple-gray. All transitions are smooth.

5. Sea

The sea is also drawn from dark to light. At the horizon it is dark blue, which creates an excellent contrast with the sky and depth of space. You can just take blue paint without mixing it with anything. Then, closer to the third part of the sea, we add a little emerald green and white to the blue, more and more brightening and “greening” the water towards the shore.

6. Sand.

Sometimes they don’t paint it, but if you want... For sand it is better to mix light ocher with a small amount of red and white. And make the transition from sea to sand smooth. This can be achieved by placing strokes of “sea” and “sand” colors next to each other, gradually “mixing” one color into the other.

It is expensive?

Let's get a look. The cost of an in-person painting lesson in Moscow is from 1,500 rubles. Add to this the time and money that will be spent on travel. And also the need to go somewhere in the evening after work or negotiate with grandmothers, husband or nanny to look after the children.

Another thing is to pour yourself a cup of tea, occupy your loved ones with something interesting or sit next to them with brushes and paints, and DRAW. Online lessons help you do what you want, when it suits you. It's much nicer that way, isn't it?
