"Children's musical performances"

A children's musical performance gives a child a huge opportunity to reveal his talents, make his dream come true, to throw out accumulated energy, find friends, understand his character and take another step in understanding the world around him.

A performance like this requires a lot of preparation. Therefore, it is necessary to accurately allocate time for preparation and rationally plan rehearsals. When you decide to prepare a performance, find like-minded people among your colleagues and parents. Let each of them contribute to the performance, take on any responsibilities as actors, lighting designers, costume designers, decorators, choreographers, musical director, director, sound engineer and those responsible for expressive reading texts by children.

The scenario has been selected, discuss it in your team, make possible changes and additions. Jointly develop sound and lighting scores, designs and sketches of future scenery, and discuss costume options. During the same discussion, determine who will take on the role of presenter, if required by the script, and who and how will fill possible pauses and hesitations. The presenters must have good diction, have organizational skills, be charming, agree on the place where the performance will be shown, set the day and time for the start of the performance and the dress rehearsal.

The next day after the performance, get together, discuss how well the performance was, mark the successful places, try to kindly find out the reason for the failures.

ADULT ROLES IN THE PLAY

Some roles in children's performances involving preschoolers are taken on by adults. Usually, these are Moms, Dads, Wizards, Fairies, Baba Yaga, Koschey the Immortal, Leshy, King, Queen, Mistress in performances where children play Mice, Chickens, Butterflies and just children.

The choice of actors and participation in a children's fairy tale as actors must be taken very seriously:

1) the candidate for the role must, if possible, match the image of his character (voice and appearance),

2) the person chosen must have artistic abilities and good memory;

H) texts are learned by heart, especially attention should be paid to dialogues and poetic texts;

4) songs and dances are learned separately, with the help of a music director and choreographer;

5) joint rehearsals with children are carried out only by those of them who are spontaneous, but participate in dialogues, songs or choreographic numbers;

b) sometimes the participation of an adult character in mass numbers is required, then the numbers are learned by adults and children separately with music director and only a few days before the performance are joint rehearsals held.

Adults must take a responsible approach to preparing a fairy tale: know the sequence of what is happening, their texts, and also be sure to know all the children’s texts by heart, so that at the moment they can tell them. A performance for children is not an exam, but an opportunity for joyful communication, the realization of their abilities and an unforgettable experience. Of course, when working with children on a performance, the number of hints should be kept to a minimum, especially in the preparatory group. In general, this depends on the level of development of children and the systematicity of their participation in such performances.

CHILDREN'S ROLES IN THE PERFORMANCE

Based on the participation of children, performances can be divided into those in which there are roles (main and secondary) for both children and adults, and those in which only children take part. In any case, choosing children for roles is one of the most important stages of preparing for a fairy tale. There are several options, and the choice of one of them is based on the experience of children participating in such performances. If the children have not participated in fairy tales before, then the teacher should assign roles. It is necessary to explain to each child who he will be, and what this will mean for the child himself. Here you need to choose your words very carefully so as not to turn the child against his future role, do not increase shyness and anxiety before “how will all this happen? Will I be funny and stupid? The child should feel that they are counting on him and it wouldn’t hurt for him to work hard. If you can turn rehearsals into joyful creativity and if the child likes such information, then his work will cease to be work, but will become an interesting activity.

Another way to distribute roles is suitable for children who have some “acting experience”. You can invite everyone to try their hand at the roles they have chosen, if there is a dispute about who to choose. And the rest of the children will name the one who succeeds; children rarely make mistakes.

Of course, grievances are possible. There are many ways to smooth out an unpleasant moment: offer other roles or play the role in turn, finding the opportunity to show the fairy tale more than once. Children who often took part in performances can be assigned to assign roles independently. However, in all these options, the teacher, at the level of cooperation, must, using his methodological skills, direct the activities of the children.

If a fairy tale is based on one particular group in kindergarten, it's important that everyone gets at least some role in it. Let it be a supporting role or participation in a choreographic number. Children should not feel lonely and unwanted.

In performances where all the roles are played by children, there will certainly be adult characters: merchants, sailors in the fairy tale “ The Scarlet Flower", Mom Mouse, Pig, Horse, Cat, Cat in the fairy tale "The Tale of a Stupid Mouse" and others. Children often play “house”, where they take on similar roles, so it will not be so difficult for them to cope with them in the play, and appropriate costumes will help the little artists get used to the character.

It's good if you have an understudy for each role. This does not mean that an understudy is a child who participates in the performance only when a replacement is necessary. For example, assign your child two roles at once: one of the main ones, which he will duplicate, and a secondary one from the crowd scenes, in which, if necessary, his absence will not be noticeable. Or immediately agree with the children about taking turns playing a role during one performance (in parts into which the performance can be divided by intermissions) or about exchanging roles at subsequent shows.

ORGANIZATION OF REHEARSALS

Now you know who will play which character. Make a list of the first cast, a list of the second cast. Develop a schedule of rehearsals individually for each actor (if necessary), rehearsals of the performance in separate parts and joint rehearsals, which end the preparation for the performance, schedule a dress rehearsal in costumes with all sound and light effects, songs and choreographic numbers.

The last rehearsal should definitely take place in costumes for many reasons. Check again whether anything will fall off the costume during the performance, whether the costume will interfere or restrict movement. Children see themselves in costumes in advance, which allows them to delve deeper into the image, and not feel constrained during the performance by the new, familiar clothes. In addition, children will not be distracted by looking at each other in an unusual way.

At all final rehearsals, children use the same attributes as during the performance. At the beginning of learning roles, attributes can be replaced with any objects. A spoon can be temporarily replaced by a flag, a broom by a gymnastic stick.

Rehearsals begin a month before the performance.

LEARNING ROLES

Children's roles are prepared in advance so that there are no unnecessary tedious activities for several days.

Learning texts with preschool children can be entrusted to the child’s parents. Perhaps the parents are very busy people, then you yourself will have to work with their child by scheduling additional individual rehearsals. It would be good if someone was specially assigned to monitor the learning of texts and expressive reading.

After analyzing the script, break it into separate small scenes, think through all the actions of the actors in this segment of the performance and their places in the staging (where at a certain moment the child will stand, where to look and what actions to perform). Rehearse the performance using these small passages, individual dialogues and even phrases. Take your time - practice expressive movements and correct intonation with your children.

Encourage children's initiative and ability to vary. This will help them not to get confused during a possible hitch during the performance and to show their individuality.

Vocal and dance numbers are also learned in advance and individually.

MUSIC IN THE PERFORMANCE

Children's performances acquire a special color due to the use of music and sounds in them. Songs and dances, as well as musical backgrounds in some performances play no less important role than a word.

There are a number of rules and restrictions on selection and learning musical repertoire with preschool children.

For example, each age group preschool children, thanks age characteristics, matches your singing range. Children 5-6 years old can sing in the D-to-2 range. The sound of low sounds is more intense, therefore, when working with children, you need to use songs with a comfortable tessitura, that is, songs in which there are more high sounds, and low ones should be passing by. Convenient sounds for children 5-6 years old are fa-si. In this range the sound is the lightest and most natural.

Most 6-7 year old children can correctly intonate a melody within D-B, and targeted, systematic work allows all children to expand their range (C-D).

Be sure to start learning or repeating songs with chants and musical exercises.

Avoid loud, hysterical singing. This can lead to voice loss and even illness.

What is a musical? Surely many people ask this question, because today this genre of theatrical art is the most popular in the whole world. It is a synthesis of drama, music and dance.

Musical theater genres

What are opera, ballet, musical and operetta? These are all genres musical theater. They all have their distinctive features. But what they have in common is that music is the main thing in all these works.

  • Opera. Appeared in the 15th century in Italy. It combines music, words and stage action.
  • Ballet. Originated in France in the 16th century. This is a musical performance in which the plot is revealed through dance. And pantomime is used to express feelings. In the 20th century appeared the new kind ballet - plotless. The dancers express only the character of the music.
  • Operetta is a comic performance. Musical numbers here they alternate with verbal dialogues and dances. This is a much lighter genre than opera and ballet. It is believed that operetta originated in mid-19th century.
  • The musical appeared at the beginning of the 20th century. Music, dramatic art, dialogues, pantomime, choreography, and songs are closely intertwined in this genre.

Musical

Let's take a closer look at what a musical is. The definition characterizing this genre gives us the idea that it originated under the influence of several genres that existed before it: operetta, vaudeville, comic opera and burlesque. Musicals are often two acts. This is a very difficult genre for both directors and actors. Artists in a musical must be universal and be able to do everything - sing, dance, have dramatic talent. IN staging plan it is complicated by the fact that it must be bright, spectacular, with a large number of interesting stage solutions, with complex scenery, luxurious expensive costumes. Musicals are replete with a variety of special effects. IN Lately It is very fashionable to use 3D technology in performances of this genre. The musical is a commercial genre, since it is necessary to spend large financial resources on staging such a performance, therefore, tickets for it are not cheap.

How did the musical genre arise?

A genre that combines several other types of musical and stage arts is what a musical is in music. The definition of this type of representation was formed not so long ago. Initially, it was difficult to separate the musical from the operetta. But over time, this type of ideas developed into separate genre theatrical arts.

The birthplace of the musical is America. The first such show was shown in New York in 1866. It combined a variety show, comedy numbers, romantic ballet, melodrama and dramatic interludes. The very first musical was "The Black Staff". At first, this genre was classified as a musical comedy, since the performances were entertaining and did not have any special plot. The content was not given much importance at all. The main thing is that it is fun, and at the same time the numbers are performed popular artists. Nowadays in a musical the plot is given great importance. In most cases, it is based on a literary work.

The difference between a musical and musical performances of other genres

How does a musical differ from its predecessors - opera and operetta? There are quite a lot of differences between opera and musical. There is a lot in common with operetta.

A performance where the actors performing the roles must master various vocal techniques from classical to jazz - that’s what a musical is. Opera is more demanding on the vocal abilities of artists: in order to perform opera roles, a stronger and brighter voice with a wide range is needed. But, on the other hand, soloists opera houses sing exclusively in an academic manner.

A performance in which the actors must not only sing well, but also have dramatic talent. This is exactly how you can answer the question “What is operetta?” And a musical is also a performance where the artist must be a good dramatic actor and an excellent vocalist. But, besides this, the artists here must dance on high level. In operetta, actors also perform dance numbers, but less often and not as complex. The musical contains various dance and vocal genres- jazz, pop, classical, rock, folklore. In operetta, as in opera, the style of singing and dancing is academic.

Musical on Broadway

The development of the musical in America at the beginning of the 20th century was facilitated by such legendary personalities, like O. Hammerstein, J. Gershwin, L. Bernstein, J. Kern and others. Many of them are immigrants from Russia who went abroad during the revolution.

Broadway musical show- What is it? The musical genre had changed somewhat by the middle of the 20th century. The libretto has become more complicated, the requirements for vocal and acting performers, more attention was paid to choreography. Broadway became the trendsetter in musical fashion during that period. The performances that took place there in the first half of the 20th century are now considered classics. Broadway is a New York street that is 25 kilometers long. It housed 40 theaters. Broadway musicals are the most famous in the world. They are still very popular today. Spectators from all over the world travel to America to attend the Broadway musical show.

What are Broadway theaters like? They differ from the standard repertoire. Broadway theaters are buildings that are leased to the show's producers. There is no troupe here. Artists are selected for each performance through casting.

Performances are performed daily. If attendance falls and earnings decrease, the show is closed and the troupe is disbanded. One of the main features of a Broadway musical is that it is created with the expectation of success and large profits. Some shows run in theaters for 20-30 years. But there are also those that cease to be of interest to the public after just a few weeks.

Musical in Europe

In the 50s of the 20th century, European audiences became acquainted with the musical. But this genre did not immediately become popular there. At first, opera and operetta remained in first place for the European audience. Nevertheless, the genre stuck.

The first performance that managed to surpass the opera and operetta in popularity was the production of “My wonderful lady" Then there was West Side Story and Hello, Dolly! Today the musical in Europe is the most popular genre theatrical art. The borrowed American productions were replaced by our own.

What is a musical in Europe? It's different from Broadway. Here great attention is given to the plot, which has a basis literary basis. This is far from comedy shows. The manner of performance in European productions differs from American traditions. Music is more complex, and it is not intended to be fun and entertaining. Even the process of preparing a production in Europe is different from how it happens in America. The difference is very big. Today, the most popular European musicals in the world are the creations of the Englishman E. L. Webber, as well as French and Austrian productions.

E. L. Webber

What is a musical in Russia? Initially, these were exclusively films in which the characters sang songs. It is difficult to clearly determine what the exact genre of these films is - are they really musicals or would it be more correct to call them musical films? Why does this question arise? Because they were quite deviated from the standards of a real musical. They were created according to their own canons. However, there are some Soviet movies, which can confidently be called musicals. These include paintings:

  • "Mary Poppins, goodbye."
  • "June 31st".
  • "Island of Lost Ships"
  • "An ordinary miracle."
  • "Khanuma", etc.

The first film shot in the musical genre was G. Alexandrov’s film “ Funny boys", in which L. Utesov took part with his jazz band. The Soviet audience had the opportunity to find out what a musical is. The music for the film is dominated by jazz, which is in keeping with Broadway traditions. Subsequently, the director made several more films of this kind.

In the 60s of the 20th century there were the first attempts to stage a musical. Similar experiments were carried out by the Leningradsky Theater. Even the legendary “West Side Story” was staged here. In the 80s, the era of rock operas by A. Rybnikov came, which were staged by director M. Zakharov on the stage of Lenkom. Had big success“The Star and Death of Joaquin Murrieta”, “Juno and Avos”. The latter still plays to a constant full house.

The 21st century was marked by the creation of such domestic productions in the musical genre as:

  • "Count Orlov"
  • "Master and Margarita".
  • "Nord-Ost".
  • "Scarlet Sails".

Russian versions of foreign productions in Moscow

In the late 90s of the 20th century, musicals based on Western principles began to be produced in the Russian capital. Russian producers began to acquire licenses for the distribution of foreign performances. The actors are ours, the directors are from abroad. The Russian viewer had the opportunity to get acquainted with best shows peace. The very first such project was the musical “Metro”. Its release was a great success, which was the reason why musicals created under foreign licenses began to multiply. Afterwards there were “Notre Dame de Paris”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Cats”, “The Little Mermaid”, etc. Since 2014, the legendary “Phantom of the Opera” by E. L. Webber has been at MDM.

Russian versions of foreign productions in St. Petersburg

The St. Petersburg Musical Comedy Theater picked up the baton of licensed productions from abroad with great success. It all started in 2011, when Roman Polanski's Ball of the Vampires was staged and became a huge success. In 2014, the production was temporarily closed, and viewers are waiting for the return of their favorite performance. Now there is another legendary musical on the musical comedy stage - “Jekyll and Hyde”.

Castings for roles in musicals

The selection of actors to play roles in productions of this genre is carried out in several stages. Artists must demonstrate their vocal abilities, choreographic skills and dramatic talent. Mostly, professional actors are selected to play roles in musicals. But there are also exceptions. There is such a thing as a “folk musical”. A striking example such a show is “The Blue Cameo” by K. Breitburg. What is a folk musical? This is a performance where a person who has no special education, but with talents. Anyone can take part in the casting of such projects. Talented nuggets take to the stage together with professionals.
