Very soon, on October 20, Minsk will have a unique event: MMA fights and performances by famous rappers will take place in the same arena. In general, the ACADEMY MMA CUP will have something interesting for both sports fans and hip-hop fans.

Now Belarusian fighters are completing preparations for their fights. The main card of the evening will feature a two-on-two fight in a cage according to MMA rules, as well as meetings between three Belarusian athletes and opponents from abroad.

In the weight category up to 70 kilograms, Belarusian Mikhail Odintsov will face Portuguese Cadena Guilherme Martins. 25-year-old Odintsov has fought nine fights according to the rules of mixed martial arts and has eight victories. His opponent also has a good track record. Martins recorded an appeal to his opponent, promising to “tear his head off” in the style accepted in the MMA world. To which our Mikhail conveyed greetings from the Belarusian land.

Mikhail Odintsov has been in sports for a long time, successfully trained in freestyle wrestling, combat sambo, and other martial arts, and has now concentrated on mixed style. But besides his success in the octagon, he is also known for his extraordinary behavior. These are not scandalous antics in the style of Conor McGregor, but... dancing. Odintsov dances before going into battle and after victories. And he admits that he has already planned a “performance” for October 20, when the ACADEMY MMA CUP will take place at the Falcon Club Arena.

In an interview, the Belarusian fighter spoke about preparations for the fight against Martins, his path in the sport and his own “tricks”.

“The emphasis is on “strike” with hands and feet”

— Has preparation for the ACADEMY MMA CUP seriously changed your usual daily routine?

“I started preparing for my fight a month and a half ago. I trained well before. Now I watch my opponent’s fights to determine how to fight him. We do this with the coach, with the team. They work specifically for me and other fighters who will compete at the tournament.

— How much work are you doing now?

— We do everything: this includes speed-strength training, endurance training, striking, and wrestling techniques. What we see on the records about the opponent is one thing, he did this a year ago. Now I have to be ready for both Martins' striking and wrestling techniques. Nobody knows how it is prepared. Yes, no one will talk about this. As a rule, when preparing, you watch the last two or three fights, and from them you can already see what your opponent is doing and how.

— And what can you say about Martins?

- Since he is Brazilian, he should be very good on the ground. This does not mean that I am afraid of the ground, I will avoid fighting in it. No, I can work there too. But since the opponent is probably better than me on the ground, I will work more in a standing position, with my arms and legs. However, I myself have been engaged in wrestling for a very long time and can calmly fight with him. However, the emphasis is on “strike” with hands and feet.

— Besides physical training, tactics, what else is needed? Psychology?

- Naturally. But, let’s say, it comes with time and depends on experience. I’ve been in the sport for many years, I prepare for training and fights in different ways. The coach sets things up very well, the guys are supportive. Plus the support that will be during the fight from the people, the fans who will come to the Falcon Club Arena. And, naturally, you need to train as much as possible.

— As you get closer to the fight, do you become more closed to other people?

- No, on the contrary. I always go out charged, cheerful, cheerful, I never get overloaded, I dance. Of course, any fighter has anxiety. But it’s not written on my face.

— Was it always like this or did it develop over time?

“Such behavior energizes me.” My thoughts are completely focused only on the fight, on the opponent. This is my “trick”. The tradition is a dance before a fight. God willing, everything will be fine - and everything will be fine - after it. Traditions cannot be broken.

“The track “Mama Belarus” was very popular in Russia and here”

— When did the dance before a fight first appear?

— If I’m not mistaken, before the second or third professional in MMA. And after that, in all sports where he performed - in combat sambo, hand-to-hand combat, he began to perform with music, cheerfully. Everyone loves these minimal dances, although I don't know why.

— How long did it take you to choose the first dance?

- No. I just like cheerful music; my feet dance to it. I can snap my fingers: I liked the melody, I’m leaving.

- Yes. Everything is ready. But for now it's a secret.

— What is the most memorable composition you used?

— I performed to the track “Mama Belarus” by Badya, Svist. Everyone really liked it, especially in Russia, and here too. After me, other fighters also began to go under it. But I don't really like it when others do the same. So I try to change something.

— In general, Belarusian performers have been discovered in the world of martial arts.

“You can say that’s what happened.”

— Don’t know the guys?

- Personally, no. But once they wrote off, the guys were glad that I came out to this music, I thanked them for such a good track. But we don't communicate anymore.

— The tournament is combined with the performance of two rappers — Dzhigan and Seryoga. What do you think of their music?

— To be honest, I don’t know her. But sometimes I listen to hip-hop. It happens that you’re on your way back from training and turn it on... In general, most of all I like cheerful music, but depending on the mood I like both rap and rock.

“I would like to play hockey at the amateur level”

— The Spetsnaz magazine published an article about you as a serviceman. What part of your life has the army taken?

— I went to serve at the age of 18 - in special forces 3214. I liked it. Passed for the right to wear a maroon beret. He worked under contract for some time. But it so happened that I had to choose one thing. These few years were chic and clear. I made a lot of good comrades and friends with whom I still communicate to this day. They will come to cheer for me. We train together. But I left the army - and now I am completely immersed in sports. This happened six months ago. It’s not that the decision was easy, because there was already a certain habit, a routine. It was unusual at first, but I have already adapted to everything.

— You are an athlete of the Belarusian Federation of Pankration and Martial Arts. How has this affected your career?

-Only on the positive side! If it weren’t for her, if it weren’t for Alexey Antsypovich, our sponsors, there wouldn’t be the result that we show. They take us to tournaments, create all the necessary conditions: equipment, food, a luxurious hall in the center of Minsk near the Frunzenskaya metro station. There is everything that fighters need. And all we need is the desire to train and the result, which is sure to come.

— The same article talked about your large and very athletic family.

- Yes. There are seven of us - five boys and two girls, dad, mom. My father laid the sports foundation for us from childhood. Mom was more involved in other matters, but she helped him in every possible way in this direction. Brother and sister are athletes.

— There are many cases when parents want their children to play sports, but they themselves have no great desire...

- But we had no choice! If I had told my father “I don’t want to” - that would be a disaster!

— What about the transitional age when many people give up sports?

- I didn’t have this. It was another matter when other guys were playing football, and we were running cross-country in the same stadium. Naturally, we also wanted to play. But these are childish moments. As you get older, you set your priorities correctly, you understand that what you need is not football, but a run, a stretch.

— How do you feel about gaming types in general?

“I’m the type that can play both football and basketball: I love everything where I need to move.” But calmer types are not suitable for me, since I am all charged and energetic. I would like to play hockey at the amateur level, it is a tougher sport. I love watching matches. Although ours, of course, are not that great... But I don’t like watching football. Although, sometimes I play in the village on a large field. Or mini-football.

— Do you watch the fights?

- Naturally! You watch the same fight ten times, learn, remember. And I constantly analyze my battles so as not to make any more mistakes. You need to grow and grow.

“I believe that there will be a lot of people at ACADEMY MMA CUP!”

— Who is the coolest in MMA now?

— Every person who plays sports is already cool. Under no circumstances should we single out anyone in particular. All well done, all handsome, all champions.

— Do you agree that MMA has changed the world of martial arts? In addition, the UFC is now attracting a lot of attention...

- This is understandable: the UFC is the major league where everyone dreams of getting into. Maximum attention should be paid to him. We will try too. Everyone in martial arts is now trying to grow, looking at each other’s different moments, everyone is trying to organize their tournament as beautifully as possible, better than others. For this only praise.

— Do long introductions of athletes before the fight and other elements of the show interfere?

- I've been used to this for a long time. Your thoughts are not about what someone will say: you are already looking at the fighter and imagining how you will act, how you will move. And this noise is ten degrees.

— Does it make noise during a fight?

- Yes, when everyone starts screaming. But at the same time, this is a big burden on the shoulders. For example, I’m not a big fan of fighting in my homeland. On the one hand, everyone is rooting for you, cool. On the other hand, this is a great responsibility. That's why it's hard. There are two sides to the coin.

— Do you think there will be a lot of people at ACADEMY MMA CUP?

“Many of my friends and comrades will come.” Relatives and friends will definitely come to cheer. The guys we work with in the gym are going to visit. I believe there will be a lot of people!

On the eve of the event, Relax.by decided to show you compatriots who can conquer not only with titles. We have compiled the top 7 sexiest Belarusian fighters.

Vadim Kutsyi

In secluded Bratslav, where the athlete was born, the only martial arts there was a karate section, where he ended up. Soon the family moved to Minsk, where Kutsy tried himself in various sports. The first serious steps were taken in freestyle wrestling. Today, the 26-year-old athlete holds more than one prestigious title: he is the European champion (and vice world champion) in pankration, the European Cup champion in grappling and the champion of Belarus in MMA.

He loves walks and active recreation, as well as nature, so he tries to get out of the city at the first opportunity. He tries to develop not only physically, so he studies foreign languages, goes to museums and exhibitions, reads poetry and communicates with smart people.

Vitaly Gurkov

Through the sections of football, Viet Vo Dao, orienteering and basketball, at the age of 14, Vitaly got into the fight club, and after 2 years he won his first world champion title in Thai boxing among amateurs (by the way, he became the youngest in the history of the country, since he the opponent was 33 years old). For almost 10 years as a member of the national team, he did not lose according to the rules of Thai boxing. In 2007, he won the Brute Force tournament in Australia, in 2010 he won the K-1 MAX qualifying tournament in Minsk, in 2012 he reached the final of the Thai Fight tournament, and in 2013 he knocked out a Lithuanian opponent with a jumping knee at the K-1 tournament WORLD G.P. He won his first professional world champion title (according to the WBC) in 2015, and today he is a ten-time world champion in Thai boxing and a multiple European champion. Officially recognized as the best Muay Thai fighter in Eastern Europe.

In addition to his impressive sporting achievements, Honored Master of Sports of Belarus Vitaly Gurkov is known to his compatriots for belonging to the Brutto group headed by Sergei Mikhalok. To at least sometimes miss training, he tries to spend time with loved ones, listen to music and look for attractive hobbies.

Artem Damkovsky

At first, Artem was involved in athletics, went to boxing twice, judo three times, and played tennis, basketball and volleyball for the school. Then he studied karate for a short time, a little later he switched to hand-to-hand combat, and in 2007 he began to fight professionally. Today he is a former M-1 Challenge lightweight champion, M-1 Selection 2010 champion, five-time champion of the Republic of Belarus in hand-to-hand combat, world champion in pankration, silver medalist of the World Championship in universal combat and champion of Belarus in ZST 2006.

Tries to get a good rest on weekends; loves to dance very much. He considers the statement that boys need fights in the yard to become men to be a stupid stereotype. Once I visited a boarding school to talk to children and tell them about sports and all the delights of a healthy lifestyle.

Yuri Bessmertny

He started training in a fight club at the age of 11, ended up on the national team, and won the junior world championship; at 17 he began to participate in adult competitions and then tried himself in professional fights. Today he is a multiple champion of Belarus and the world in professional Thai boxing, an international master of sports. He fought more than 50 fights in the professional ring, 19 of which he finished by knockout.

An interesting story: at the quarterfinal stage of the tournament, Fight Code won on points against its Italian opponent, but the next day I learned from the organizers that they had made a mistake in the calculations; it was proposed to change the referee's decision in favor of the Italian or hold another fight. The Immortal chose the second option and knocked out his opponent in the first round. By the way, he ended up becoming the tournament champion.

Yuri’s mother brought him into Thai boxing, and to this day she watches all his fights. Yuri himself remembers how he ran away from the first training session: he was scared. To unwind, he likes to sleep and watch movies (and cartoons), go to Gomel to visit friends or go shopping in Poland and Lithuania.

Mikhail Odintsov

The rising star of Belarusian MMA, Mikhail Odintsov, can also boast of serious sporting achievements: he is a master of sports in freestyle wrestling, combat sambo and hand-to-hand combat, as well as the winner of the World Cup stage in combat sambo and the world champion in pankration.

Andrey Kulebin

They say that Andrey is one of those fighters who needs no introduction. He started training in martial arts at the age of 9 with the taekwondo section, and at 13 he deviated: he began training according to the rules of Muay Thai. The athlete already won the Belarusian championship among adults at the age of 16, but he managed to conquer the world championship only on his third attempt (in 2003, then he was only 19 years old). Now Kulebin— 25-time world champion in various versions and the only fighter in the world to have won the world title in the most prestigious version of Muay Thai (WMC) 5 times. In 2008, he was the first among domestic Thai boxers to receive the title of Honored Master of Sports.

He loves to read (at school he boasted of getting a perfect score in literature) and watching good movies. He gave lectures on Muay Thai at BSUPC, regularly acted in domestic advertising (and would even like to act in a movie). Jumped with a parachute from a height of three thousand meters. Loves to play football and travel.

Alexey Kudin

The athlete began his career with hand-to-hand combat: already at the age of 16 he had his first 2-3 fights “in a cage”, and by the age of 17 there were already 15 of these in his life. Later, Alexey concentrated on Thai boxing and kickboxing, but relatively quickly returned to mixed martial arts.

Undoubtedly, Honored Master of Sports Alexey Kudin is especially sexy with his titles: he is a multiple world champion in kickboxing WAKO and Thai boxing IFMO, world champion in kickboxing according to WBKF, winner of the ProFC Grand Prix and the Russian Open MMA Championship, and also the champion of Belarus in Thai boxing, kickboxing and grappling. He says that the most important thing before the fight is— set yourself up for maximum concentration, immerse yourself and diligently avoid even minor mistakes.

Already this evening, the grandiose project show “ACADEMY MMA CUP” will take place in the capital’s sports and entertainment complex Falcon Club Arena. Starts at 19.00.

For the first time in Belarus, MMA fights and performances by top rappers Seryoga and Dzhigan are combined into one event.

In total, seven fights will take place within the framework of the project show, in which Belarusian fighters will compete with athletes from abroad. The first to enter the octagon will be Evgeniy Katser and the representative of Kyrgyzstan Argen Kaidybaev (weight category up to 77 kilograms). Next, Pavel Masalski and Armands Tilens from Latvia (up to 84 kg) will fight, and Mikhail Bureshkin will be opposed by Russian Alexey Prokofiev (up to 84 kg).

After three fights, Seryoga will delight the audience with his creativity.

The next match will be unique for our country. There will be four people in the octagon at once, two on each side. Such a battle has its own characteristics: it will last until the result, that is, the defeat of one team or surrender, and without taking into account time. If one of the pair drops out, the opponents will have only a minute left to achieve victory, with one fighter having to defend against two. And if the team does not have time to take advantage of the numerical advantage, it will be counted as a defeat. Let us note that the Belarusian fighters will be opposed by a Ukrainian pair.

Before the fights on the main card of the tournament, Dzhigan will perform, and then the main fights of the evening will take place.

Mikhail Odintsov will fight with the representative of Portugal Guilherme Cadena Martins, the athletes compete in the weight category up to 70 kg. The next to determine the strongest are Vadim Kutsy and Spaniard Javier Fuentes (up to 77 kg). Finally, the main fight of the evening will be the fight between Alexey Kudin and Charles Andrade from Brazil (over 93 kg).

The weigh-in of the participants took place the day before. Everyone has confirmed the declared weight and is ready for battle.

Let us remind you that tickets for the “ACADEMY MMA CUP” can be purchased on the operator’s website ticketpro.by, their cost is from 20 to 80 rubles.
