Kyrgyz-Russian Dictionary by Yudakhin

FROM THE PUBLISHER

The Kyrgyz-Russian dictionary, offered to the attention of readers, was compiled by a prominent lexicographer and researcher of the Kyrgyz language of action. Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Kirghiz SSR, prof. K. K. Yudakhin. In 1940, the Publishing House of Foreign and National Dictionaries published the first Kyrgyz-Russian dictionary by Prof. K. K. Yudakhina, who received numerous positive reviews, published in Turkey with a translation of the Russian part into Turkish, i.e. in the form of a Kyrgyz-Turkish dictionary, and which formed the basis of the Dictionary of the Kyrgyz language compiled by the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR. Prof. K. K. Yudakhin is one of the founders of national lexicography, especially Turkic: his Kyrgyz-Russian dictionary (1940) in Soviet era was the first fundamental national-Russian dictionary, which became widely known both in the Soviet Union and abroad, a dictionary that recorded the vocabulary of the national language and at the same time showed word usage with sufficient depth. The dictionary has also served the compilers of some Turkic-Russian national dictionaries. Experience has shown the usefulness of the dictionary in other areas. Dictionary materials used in wide circles specialists, including graduate students and doctoral students. The dictionary is highly appreciated by translators from Kyrgyz into Russian, for whom this dictionary is a reference book. However, the volume of the dictionary was still not particularly large, so the author was faced with the task of creating a new, more complete dictionary. Having devoted his entire life to the study of Kyrgyz vocabulary, Prof. K. K. Yudakhin collected a huge amount of material, on the basis of which this dictionary was created. The dictionary includes vocabulary of the modern Kyrgyz language, historical and ethnographic terms, folklore materials, as well as outdated words. This is the first time a dictionary of this type has been published. This is not an ordinary translation dictionary, intended mainly for teachers and students, for translators and press workers, but also a valuable guide for specialists in Kyrgyz folklore and Kyrgyz literature, for Turkic linguists, historians, and ethnographers. This purposefulness of the dictionary explains its structure, the way of presenting material, which differs from those usually accepted in translated dictionaries; This explains the abundance of historical and ethnographic references and rich illustrative material. Before publication, the manuscript of the dictionary was widely reviewed by individual experts, who highly appreciated the work of Prof. K.K. Yudakhin, and was also discussed at the Academic Council of the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR, the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR, in the Turkic sector of the Institute of Linguistics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and in other organizations that recommended publishing the Kyrgyz-Russian dictionary as soon as possible.
