On April 19, the VI International festival-seminar of youth and youth theaters “Parallel Worlds” opens in Baranovichi. Spectators are treated to six days of non-stop theatrical performances by eighteen theaters from six countries - Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Lithuania and Estonia. Kultprosvet learned details about the upcoming festival from the chief director of the Parallel Theater Larisa Sartakova.

As Larisa said, the level of the festival has improved. 57 applications were submitted from seven countries, but many of those wishing to participate had to be turned down for several reasons: some performances had already been presented in the festival program of previous years, while others did not have enough experience, and the level of the performance would not allow them to compete with other theaters. This year, both the number of participating countries (there were five at the last festival) and the age of the teams have increased.

Larisa Sartakova called the presence in the competition of not only amateur groups, but also professional theater schools, a feature of the current “Parallel Worlds”. This had a positive effect on the program of the upcoming festival, which will delight you with the variety of genres and forms: “The range of genres at the festival is wide: from musical comedy to tragic mass. The playbill contains a musical and plastic performance and a historical drama, a parable and a farce, a comedy and a tragedy. If earlier drama prevailed, this time there will be a lot of comedy performances. For the first time, a one-man show was included in the playbill of our festival, and a total of five applications for one-man shows were submitted - this is an interesting trend. Another trend this year is that many participating theaters are working not with plays, but with prose and poetry.”

Performance “The Jokes of Doctor Chekhov”, Theater “April” (Khimki, Russia)

The Parallel Worlds program will not be limited to performances. Each festival day will end with round tables - discussions of productions with the participation of jury members and directors of all theaters.

The judges will include professional directors, theater teachers, actors of Belarusian theaters, and art critics. The chairman of the jury will be the director of the Brest Academic Drama Theater, playwright Timofey Ilyevsky.

The festival program also included two master classes. A class on stage movement will be taught by Associate Professor of the Cologne Theater Academy Gregor Weber, and a master class “Features of theatrical choreography” will be taught by the choreographer of the Parallel Theater, winner of many diplomas from international festivals, Olga Skomorokh. “It is in the training of these disciplines in amateur theater that the greatest gaps are observed,” comments Larisa Sartakova.

The winners of the festival will go home not only with traditional diplomas, but also with prizes. However, the management of “Parallel Worlds” maintains the intrigue: we will only find out what exactly the best theatergoers will be awarded at the closing of the festival. But it is already known that these will be things necessary for theatrical life.

All performances of the upcoming event will be held on the stage of the Palace of Children's Creativity in the city of Baranovichi (Sovetskaya St., 136). You can buy a ticket for any performance at the affordable price of 50,000 rubles.

mini-guide to the festival from Larisa Sartakova

The St. Petersburg Igrische Theater continues to amaze, trying itself in completely different genres from clowning to farce. The New Stage Theater, which has twice won the Grand Prix of the festival, will come to us for the sixth time this year - with the play “What else remains for us” based on G. Gorin’s play “Funeral Prayer”. Last year's Grand Prix winner, the Backstage Theater from St. Petersburg, will show a detective story based on Agatha Christie's book “10 Little Indians.” “For the first time, performances will be performed at the festival in German and Lithuanian. In German - production of the Cologne Theater Academy “The Agony of Troy”, created on the basis of ancient Greek chronicles. In Lithuanian - “Margarita”, a kind of continuation of Goethe’s “Faust”. Watching these performances can be a very interesting viewing experience.

Pay attention to Theater 11 (Bremen, Germany) and Theater Krug-2 (Krasnoznamensk, Russia). These groups already have their fans on Belarusian soil.

Theater “S.T.U.K.” from Nikolaev (Ukraine) will surprise you with a musical comedy in the jazz style “It’s not just girls in jazz.”

24.04.2016 - 14:00

News of Belarus. For a whole week, the city of Baranovichi turned from a youth capital into a theater capital. The VI Youth Festival “Parallel Worlds” brought together groups from Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Estonia and Germany. The correspondent of the “24 Hours” News program on STV knows what surprises the debutants and regulars of the international forum this year.

A few minutes before the performance, the dressing room is as atmospheric as it is on stage. Although the theater actors from Pereslavl-Zalessky have not been nervous for a long time. Over the 6 years of the festival, the Belarusian stage has already become native to them.

Anatoly Kuznetsov, actor of the theater-studio “New Stage” (Russia):
A very cool venue specifically for showing a performance. So that people can evaluate it and then give us some constructive criticism. The performance is a living organism, it must develop all the time. To have a motive to move on.

But Irina Miller and her troupe from Cologne came to Belarus for the first time. Young German actors will present a play about the meaninglessness of war. And at the same time they will prove in practice: the language of theater is universal and understandable even without words.

Irina Miller, acting teacher at the Theater Academy of Cologne (Germany):
People here won't understand the language. And I always tell my students: if the performance is good, then everyone will understand, even if the language is not clear, and if the performance is bad, then knowing the language will not save you.

57 applications for participation and only a third of them in the final program - not a single performance ended up here by chance. The festival in Baranovichi brought together all the cream of youth theatrical art from 6 countries.

Artem Svistun, managing director of the Nikolaev Academic Art Russian Drama Theater:
The palette of the festival is very diverse and diverse. Drama, comedy, and experimental forms of work are presented.

Larisa Sartakova, organizer of the Parallel Worlds festival:
The main idea of the festival, of course, is to unite theaters. Why did we call it “Parallel Worlds” because theaters often run parallel and do not intersect. And each theater is its own big world. Therefore, communication, interaction, new friends, new cultural connections.

At the festival, actors and directors were also presented with a training theater laboratory.

“Our main task is to return live communication.” An unusual interactive performance will be held in Minsk

Should a secret always be revealed? The Belarusian State Youth Theater tried to answer this question. On its small stage on March 20 the premiere of the interactive play “Skeletons” will take place.
