How to get there and how long to travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang: distance. Calendar of low prices for flights to Ho Chi Minh City

30.09.2019

Good day, travelers!

If you prefer to travel around Vietnam on your own, without the help of tour operators (which I advise you to do, because it’s much more interesting and cheaper), then once you are in Nha Trang, it will be useful to find out how you can get from Nha Trang to Cam Ranh Airport on your own. Or vice versa, having arrived in Cam Ranh, how to get from the airport to Nha Trang. I’ll tell you in as much detail as possible how to do this without the help of a taxi, i.e. more budget-friendly, but at the same time quite convenient.

During our second trip to Vietnam, Nha Trang was our last stop before flying back to Russia. Traveling all day long is, although more convenient than taking a regular bus, but still tiring. So it was decided to fly from Nha Trang to Hanoi, from where we had a flight to Moscow. But since Cam Ranh Airport is located about 35 kilometers from Nha Trang, you still need to get there somehow. The taxi option is of course the simplest, but this pleasure will cost about 500 thousand VND! You can, of course, bargain and bring the price down a little, but it still turns out to be a little expensive. And why overpay when you can conveniently get there by bus.

How to get from Nha Trang to Cam Ranh Airport?

Bus No. 18 runs on the Nha Trang-Cam Ranh route and back. The fare is fixed - 50 thousand VND per person. There is no need to pay for luggage separately; it is included in the fare. By at least They didn’t charge us a penny for 2 backpacks and 2 large bags. The bus runs from 06:30 and the last one leaves at 19:00. In Nha Trang, it stops at regular bus stops, where route No. 18 is designated. But in reality, you don’t even have to look for the places of these stops. At any hotel or guesthouse where you are staying in Nha Trang, just tell the receptionist that you plan to go to the airport by bus. They will sell you tickets directly at the reception or a special person will arrive, who will then take you to the nearest stop and put you on the bus. It will also help with things.

Bus number 18:

The travel time to the airport is about 50 minutes. Along the way, the bus collects the same tourists and Vietnamese around the city. In Cam Ranh, the bus stops right at the airport entrance.

At Cam Ranh Airport:

So everything is as convenient and comfortable as possible. The only downside here is that the last bus leaves Nha Trang at 19:00, so if you have a late flight, you will either have to go to the airport early or use a taxi. We preferred the first option.

How to get from Cam Ranh Airport to Nha Trang?

Now I’ll tell you how to get to Nha Trang from Cam Ranh Airport on your own. In principle, everything is even simpler here. Coming out of the airport building, you will immediately see the following counters and buses nearby:

This is the same 18 bus waiting for passengers to Nha Trang. The price is accordingly the same. It’s nice that the last bus 18 leaves from the airport to the city not at 19:00, but much later. As I understand it, the bus is tied to each specific flight arriving in Cam Ranh. In any case, when we were waiting for our flight at the airport, I noticed that around 22:00 there were still buses. Of course, only taxis remain at night, but from 06:00 buses are on the route again.

There is also an option with minibuses. Right there, opposite the entrance to the airport, there are several counters where they sell tickets for minibuses to Nha Trang. Their price is the same as the 18 bus. I don’t see any difference between them, so you can go by minibus.

In Nha Trang, the bus drops off at the same designated stops. Route taxis- on request.

As you can see, everything is as simple, convenient and comfortable as possible.

Now you know how to get from Nha Trang to Cam Ranh Airport and back on your own without overpaying for a taxi. Good luck!

I continue my blog about our adventures in Vietnam. Today I’ll tell you how we got from Nha Trang to Phu Quoc, and this story will probably be useful for everyone who is looking for options on how to get to the island, and just wants to know what it’s like to travel around Vietnam by bike, bus, plane, ferry and even train.

How to get from Nha Trang to Phu Quoc

We came to Vietnam on a package tour: we bought last-minute tours in December departing from Khabarovsk. At first I didn’t like Nha Trang, but after a couple of days everything fell into place, in the end we spent an excellent two paid weeks, and then went to Phu Quoc via Ho Chi Minh City. When the two weeks of the tour came to an end, we began to think about how to get to Phu Quoc from Nha Trang and there were several options:

  • by plane with a transfer in Ho Chi Minh City
  • by bus to Ho Chi Minh City, and then by plane to Phu Quoc
  • by train to Ho Chi Minh City, and then by plane too
  • by bus to Ho Chi Minh City, then by bus to Ha Tien and by ferry to Phu Quoc

We chose the best option: take a bus to Ho Chi Minh City, spend ten days there, meet New Year, visit museums, see friends, and then go to Phu Quoc by plane. If you want to fly both parts of the route by plane, then take care in advance - we no longer had time to buy cheap tickets, and after weighing the pros and cons, we went by bus.

Every first travel agency in Nha Trang will offer you a bus ticket and transfer to the “bus station” directly from the hotel. The ticket will cost 10 - 12 dollars. But you can also buy a ticket yourself: it will cost a little cheaper - 170,000/ 180,000 dong (7 - 8 dollars). But the bus to Ho Chi Minh City leaves early in the morning (6.00, 7.00, 8.00, 9.00) and it might be better to choose a ticket from an agency that includes a transfer. We bought the ticket ourselves and got there early in the morning. Uber (in Nha Trang it is a third cheaper than a taxi, by the way) to the bus.

To understand what it’s like to travel by bus in Vietnam, read my blog about how I traveled from Phu Quoc to Ho Chi Minh City. Here the situation is the same - a comfortable sleeping bus, with new seats and very powerful air conditioning (take a blanket or jacket with you, Asians turn the air conditioning on full).

If you go on your own, here are a few transport companies, whose bus goes from Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh City. On their websites you can see bus schedules and prices.

From Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc

Ten days in Saigon flew by like one - we saw friends, of whom we had half a dozen in this dynamic city, some left several years ago, some recently, Saigon is a real magnet: there is a growing economy and foreign specialists are not without work sitting.

We visited the main attractions, walked around the city, visited museums, maybe I will write a separate post about this, but that’s not what we’re talking about right now. We flew from Ho Chi Minh to Phu Quoc by plane. We bought tickets two weeks in advance, back in Nha Trang, on the website vietjet.com. This is a popular Vietnamese low-cost airline, where you can sometimes find attractive tickets. Our tickets cost $50 per person. The flight to Fukuoka is only 45 minutes, but it is better to arrive at the airport in advance.

Ho Chi Minh City Airport

This is the main airport in the south of the country, and there are a few things you should know about Ho Chi Minh City Airport.

local and international communications halls are located in different buildings,

For local flights, it is useful to arrive an hour to an hour and a half in advance, since there is a general queue at pre-flight control, and you can get stuck for 15-20 minutes while Vietnamese security slowly checks passengers.

You can get to the airport by taxi and bus; if you choose the second option, I recommend installing an application that shows the movement of buses in real time - I wrote about it in detail in a previous post about traveling to Saigon from Phu Quoc by bus and ferry.

I hope my story of how we drove from Nha Trang to Phu Quoc will be useful to you, and if you have your own experience, share it in the comments!

As you understand, Vietnam is a different world, but before the trip I didn’t think it was that much. I even wondered if it was safe to drive on my own? I’ll tell you this: it’s relatively safe, because there are plenty of pickpockets, as well as well-wishers who help buy tickets at exorbitant prices.

By bus

Tourist buses in Vietnam are often called slipbuses. These are luxury flights designed more for tourists.

There are two carriers that carry you to Ho Chi Minh City: Hanhcafe and Sinh Tourist, although I would like to call them travel agencies. To look at the schedule, you need to strictly know how to spell Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang, although the sites have an English version, this does not help much. In addition, many cities have similar names, and Ho Chi Minh City used to be called Saigon.

Hanhcafe buses depart at 7:30 and 13:00, and Sinh Tourist buses depart at 7:15 and 20:00. Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City in 10-11 hours.

The design of the slipbass interiors is amazing and we have no analogues. The chairs are more like a couch where you can lie down. They are clearly designed for the height of the Vietnamese, so for men taller than 180 cm, it will be difficult to do what to do if they are tall, I don’t even know. And this entire structure has 2 floors:

The road, on top of everything, is disgusting, it was shaking all the time. Maybe it was the bus or the driving style, I don’t know, but it was difficult to sleep.

Buying tickets

Buying bus tickets is a big deal. They are sold in any travel agencies and guesthouses, but they will be sold at an inflated price. The lowest prices are at the carrier's offices, they are available in all cities, look at the coordinates on the websites and. By the way, Sinh Tourist has an online sales function, and seems to accept all international cards, but I didn’t take the risk. :) Besides these two, there are other agencies that you can find on the streets of the city, as well as regular buses, for the quality of which I am not responsible. The ticket will cost less, but ordinary seats, a greasy interior with a suspicious odor, are guaranteed.

Price

If you do not buy tickets from an agency, bargain! They can heat up well, tickets cost from 7 euros, on average 9-10 euros.

By train

The trains in Vietnam resemble our old ones in appearance. There are four types of carriages on the route to Ho Chi Minh City:

  • Hard Seat - wooden benches, like in old trains, only the cars are creepy;
  • Soft Seat - a type of express train where the seats are soft. The carriages are also dirty, but you can drive through them, there is air conditioning;
  • Hard Berth(6) - compartment for six, 3 shelves on both sides;
  • Soft Berth(4) - coupe for four. Clean, decent, even modern if the train is new.

Trains are also divided into fast and non-fast, for example, SE1, SE3 - fast. The schedule is constantly changing, but there are always 4 fast trains per day, the rest are introduced at the discretion railway.

If the fast train does not suit your time, then it is better to buy a bus ticket, since on regular trains the train may be old, which means that dirty seats are the best thing that will happen to you. And the worst is a non-working air conditioner or terrible cold, a dirty carriage, dust, Prussians, and so on. Trains are also late, this applies to all types.

Nha Trang railway station is located here:

And in Ho Chi Minh City here:

Buying tickets

Believe it or not, you can even buy train tickets at the hotel, but I recommend going to the station and buying them at the ticket office. Again, there is a function for selling travel documents on the railway website, but I personally have not tried to see if our cards are accepted.

Price

Travel in a six-seater compartment costs 500 thousand dong, which is approximately 18 euros, and seats can be found for 220 thousand.

By plane

The flight won't be much more expensive. Vietjet Air and Vietnam Airlines fly daily from Nha Trang Airport (Cam Ranh). Check the schedule on airline websites or ticket sales websites.

Nha Trang Airport is located far outside the city; it takes 40 minutes to get there by minibus. Here is the stop: Minibuses travel frequently, the fare costs 50,000 dong or 1.8 euros. You can also take a taxi, but it will cost 18 euros. The flight takes 1 hour.

In Ho Chi Minh City, you can get to the city by regular buses for 0.5 euros, by minibus for 1.5 euros, or by taxi. All transport stops near the terminal.

Buying tickets

Airplane tickets are sold on the websites of Vietjet Air and Vietnam Airlines. Bus travel is paid on the spot; there is no need to buy tickets in advance. Always pay taxi drivers after the trip, they are still scammers.

Price

A plane ticket costs from 13 euros, spend another 4 euros on minibuses.

By car

It is impossible for a foreigner with an international license to rent a car in Vietnam, but you can rent a car with a driver. You understand, pleasure is not cheap. A license for a scooter is also needed, but people turn a blind eye to this. If a foreigner is driving normally, and even wearing a helmet, no one will check his license. But I wouldn’t recommend riding a scooter to Ho Chi Minh City, just imagine how long you’ll have to travel and how many times you’ll need to refuel? Scooters are a completely separate issue; they are stolen, so it is recommended to leave them on the hotel premises. Locals often trick foreigners into paying for parking, which is not even a thing.

Conclusion

It is faster and more convenient to fly by plane; for Vietnam it is expensive, compared to our prices - not much. If you take an airplane, you will not feel the local flavor, nor will you see the country from the window of a train or bus. If you compare the bus and the train, the choice here is simple: expensive and fast or cheap and long. Then decide for yourself, have a nice trip!
