I never thought that going to the circus could be so memorable. It was as if I had returned to my childhood. Bright costumes, funny clowns, unique acrobat acts and much more. I haven't been this happy for a long time! Thanks to my beloved husband for the tickets to the circus!

Once again I am convinced that the Nikulin circus is the best! And it’s not just about the programs (they, by the way, are not always pleasing. A few years ago I was disappointed by Gia Eradze, not a show, but a Brazilian carnival. The taste and color, in general). The point is energy, what Nikulin intended in his brainchild. Tickets to the circus on Tsvetnoy are just an outlet, an opportunity to look, at least with one eye, at the good old circus from my childhood.

Last week I visited Yuri Nikulin’s circus with my schoolgirl granddaughter. I really liked their Monte Carlo program. Although I have seen a lot in the world, I was amazed at the skill of acrobats and trainers no less than my Ksyusha. But she, by the way, liked the clown-host much more. She laughed loudly at his jokes and clapped after every time he entered the arena.

Favorite circus! We have been coming here for the third year now - since Artemka was four years old, and he could sit through a full-fledged performance with an intermission. The show never let us down, everything was interesting and bright.

Of course, the child goes because of the animals - trained bears and dogs are his priority. It is difficult for him to appreciate the performances of acrobats and gymnasts. But he is delighted with clowns. And it's good that they are participating in the show.

If we talk about tickets, we don’t take expensive ones for the first seats in the stalls. The middle of the stalls is, yes, good and not so expensive. The first rows of the amphitheater are also good if better seats have already been taken. When my parents (tall parents) are sitting in front, I sometimes take my son in my arms so that I can see everything.

Be sure to go with your child - you won’t regret it!

The whole family went to the circus on Tsvetnoy. What can I say? Excellent performance, bright, cheerful, kind. I thought we were just waiting for a series of ordinary tricks. And here is a whole performance with well-thought-out attractions)) Maybe I just haven’t been to a circus for a long time, and that’s why I’m so delighted. But we all, including five-year-old Pasha, left the hall in a great mood.

“All the Colors of the World” is an amazing performance. Sorry for the loud words and the storm of emotions, but I am very excited about the new show. There are exotic animals and amazing tricks and, of course, lots and lots of laughter. I went to the premiere with my 5-year-old daughter. You can’t even imagine how much she and all the other children in the audience enjoyed Nikulin’s circus! Go boldly and don’t even hesitate - it’s cool and a lot of fun!!!

For the summer holidays, my daughter Varenka and I went to visit my sister in Moscow. What's a trip to the capital without visiting the circus on Tsvetnoy? We simply couldn’t help but go there, and for good reason. My daughter was very happy to see live clowns, she even took pictures with them after the show. And my wife and I had tremendous pleasure and finally took a break from everyday life. Our whole friendly family had a lot of fun.

We were here for the first time, the whole family went to a circus festival. It’s a pity they didn’t pay attention to the fact that he was a youth. I wanted to look at experienced artists. But, in fairness, I note that almost all the competitors performed with dignity. Equilibrists are generally beyond praise, by the way. There are a lot of people, but not stuffy - the air conditioners saved the day.

The circus itself is not much different from the Bolshoi Moscow Circus, where we usually take our daughter. Large arena, good equipment, in general, comfortable chairs. If only there was more distance between the rows, then tall people would be able to sit comfortably (my husband and I are 1.90 and 1.92).

The parents did not share their son's passion. My father, the director of the Tbilisi market, and my grandfather, a professor of neuropathology, were especially against it. They dreamed that Gia would become a great dentist. And here?! The heir to the Eradze-Manjigaldze family disappears in the arena, works there as a groom, trains birds and, without the consent of his loved ones, goes on tour with the circus to Yerevan. Unheard of!

The boy was returned back with a scandal. And how many ups and downs Gia had to endure, his father came to terms with his circus present only when in 2006 the entire Georgian capital came to congratulate his 27-year-old son on being awarded the title of Honored Artist. July 2015, Tsvetnoy Boulevard. Together with the winner of the recent circus festival in Sochi, Italian clown David Larible, and the children of Soso Pavliashvili, I beat off palms at the “Royal Circus” show by Gia Eradze. The amount of beauty (suffice it to say that the dancers change their breathtaking costumes 11 times during the performance) and risky stunts per square meter of the arena is off the charts. Snakes, camels, donkeys, llamas, ponies, ostriches, horses, kangaroos, porcupines, peacocks, roosters, geese, parrots, leopard. And also storks, cranes, dogs, pelicans, lions, African horned raven. The largest representative of the cat family, the liger (the cub of a white tigress and a lion), who was recently born in the Eradze circus, will soon enter the arena. And in the center of this huge artistic and animal-bird family is Gia - in a crown (he also has several of them) and on a white horse. As befits a king, he is handsome and successful (the largest contributions to the Russian State Circus). After the performance, the king gives me a tour behind the scenes and introduces me to the star of the troupe, 12-year-old chimpanzee Richik, allows me to tickle the soft belly of the lemur Dylan and tells me that at the international festival in Sochi his show was recognized as the best. He is happy to say that tickets for the performance of the “Royal Circus” (the show is also running in Voronezh) are selling like hot cakes. “But, in an unprecedented case in history, our contract was extended until September 3, so everyone can get in.” And then he admits that he is very worried about the heart of his mother Marina. “She there, in Tbilisi, feels every time I enter the arena and always prays. He can’t forget how one day I turned away and the lion “petted” me. And when we meet, Andrei always sadly recalls the times when I started training harmless pigeons, bought with money saved from school lunches.”

“Royal Circus” by Honored Artist of the Russian Federation and Georgia Gia Eradze is a grandiose project in which artists of various genres and exotic animals participate: llamas, zebras, noses, lemurs, porcupines, gibbons.

This fabulous show opened the 55th anniversary season at the Tula State Circus. Last year, the season here also began with Gia Eradze’s show “Baronets,” but what the public saw this time was amazing! The program employs 120 artists, uses more than 2,000 exclusive costumes, designer scenery and props, and uses 19 trucks for transportation.

“Royal Circus” is a performance of a new generation, breaking stereotypes and exciting the imagination. In addition to the fact that a constellation of acts has been collected here, each of them was worked on by experienced directors, choreographers, lighting designers and production designers; it synthesizes all genres of circus art: training, aerialists on canvases and chains, illusion, balancing act, pop ballet and much more.

For the performance, a huge Golden Castle was designed, decorated with velvet and shimmering with lights, a three-level curtain, sometimes hiding the entire arena, and crystal chandeliers.

The spectacle of the action is mesmerizing: during the three hours that it lasts, the audience seems to be on a journey through different continents and eras. Indians and Roman gladiators rush in front of them in chariots, incredible aliens, the mythical Pegasus, white-winged angels, jesters, inhabitants of Swan Lake and other fantasy characters appear.

A grand piano, sprinkled with Swarovski crystals, magically appears in the arena, fountains splash from it, and a tightrope walker, surrounded by ballerinas, performs unimaginable tricks.

Bears dance the fiery Russian square dance together with the corps de ballet, and acrobats on counter swings perform breathtaking stunts, as if defying the law of universal gravitation.

The masterly dexterity of the jugglers on the “arrows” – a unique rotating apparatus that has no analogues in the world – is impressive.

The Wild World of the Jungle attraction is a passion-filled performance featuring African lions, Sumatran tigers and rare representatives of this species - white tigers. But it all begins with the appearance of the corps de ballet dancers, dressed in fantasy costumes of human werewolves, who in their dance seem to transform into wild animals.

The viewing experience can be described in one word – “shock”. After the end of the performance, the audience did not want to leave the hall, but gave the artists a long standing ovation.

The large tour, within which the “Royal Circus” arrived in Tula, began at the Moscow Yuri Nikulin Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard, where over eight months the show was watched by more than half a million people.

After the premiere in Tula, the producer and artistic director of the group, Georgy Eradze, was presented with the coat of arms of the Royal Circus, created by Moscow designer Evgeny Lebedev. This is a true work of art, inlaid with gold leaf, where all the symbols that characterize this project are intertwined, decorated with a crown on top.

“We received the biggest gift today from the audience,” noted Georgy Giulevich. – Tula spectators are sophisticated, they have seen many different programs, and their reaction to our performance today, their ovation, is the highest rating. Of course, we were all worried today: despite many years of work, the premiere always excites us - like the first time in the arena. Circus is a living art, complex, but this is the professionalism of the artist, the measure of his responsibility to the public...

All genres of circus art are dangerous - for example, the “Counter Swing” act is very complex, every movement is carefully controlled. No wonder its performers are winners of many gold awards at various world festivals. This year they are going to China, which is famous for its acrobatic school, and let's hope for their next triumph, then they will go on a New Year's tour to Germany, to Stuttgart. And in a few months, 59 artists of the Royal Circus will represent Russia at the most prestigious circus arts festival in Monte Carlo. There will be a swing, “air”, a white block, which is like our calling card...

Now a beautiful show is on tour in Yekaterinburg - “The Royal Circus of Gia Eradze”. Tatyana Shirokova, choreographer, told Woman`s Day about the life of circus performers: what difficulties they have to face.

– The life of a circus performer means constant moving every 1.5–2 months. That is, every time upon arrival in the city, our team needs to unload 19 trucks, and after the end of the tour, pack them up. This is quite difficult, so everyone helps, including artists. I remember the most extreme case: 5 years ago, a January tour in Krasnoyarsk. We are already accustomed to quickly unloading props, scenery, costumes, personal belongings - everything that may be needed. But in those three days in which we “gathered” in Krasnoyarsk, the frost hit -52 degrees.

I only get to stay at home for one month a year.

Circus props are transported in 19 trucks

“Besides the fact that it is not difficult for every circus employee to pack an entire apartment for a tour in two days, our life is also not like ordinary life. For example, many people complain about the specific smell in the circus, which arises because the animals live right in the circus, in spacious enclosures. We don’t smell this smell – we’re used to it (laughs).

We live in 8–9 cities a year. Vacations are traditionally once a year - in May. Ordinary people go abroad on vacation, and we go home, because the whole troupe is from different cities. At this time, for example, we go to the dentist, do paperwork - in a word, we solve everyday issues that ordinary people deal with as needed.

Circus kids

Everything for children: both small spectators and artists

Photo “Royal Circus of Gia Eradze”

– One of our artists gave birth in Yekaterinburg. This is already the fifth addition to our troupe this year (laughs). Almost the whole team came to the discharge. People looked out the windows and were amazed at the number of people. Everything with us is always colorful and large-scale!

We also have a maternity leave, because everyone is officially employed by the Russian State Circus company. But, as a rule, mothers with newborns do not go home, but stay to help with costumes or animals. When there are so many people around you, whoever took the child is the nanny (laughs).

Older children travel with their parents. In each city they go to a new school, they have to adapt. But when we ask if they are satisfied with everything, they answer: “I like everything!” Questions disappear... The only negative is the difference in textbooks and program. For example, we came from Nizhny Novgorod to Kazan, and there the program was slower. Children have to listen to material they have already covered for some time.

Every circus child does something in his free time from school. For example, my daughter in Yekaterinburg participates in the “Little Miss Yekaterinburg” competition and even made it to the finals. The whole team will definitely come to support her in the final.

“We don’t have circus dynasties”

Gia Eradze with her pets

– When Gia just started his journey, he was only 11 years old. His family had nothing to do with the circus, but the boy was passionate about it. Various troupes often came to Georgia, Gia did not miss a single performance - he already set the goal of devoting his life to the circus.

But he had to not just because of the dynasty that reigns in the circus world. Despite the fact that there are circus schools, they teach such genres as juggling and acrobatics, but not training. This knowledge is passed on by relatives: from the older generation to the younger. There is not a single corner in the world where you can come and say: “I want to become a trainer.”

Gia got a job at the circus as an assistant in the horse-drawn attraction “Dzhigits of Georgia”, and looked after the horses. He was noticed: in the circus, desire coincides with opportunity. So after some time he began to train in the genre of juggling, and later he even went out into the arena with pigeons, which flew to the “globe” from almost anywhere in the dark hall. He set the number himself. After him, Gia’s career developed rapidly, and other circuses began offering him work. Then he decided that he would help artists like himself who did not have a famous surname.

Two premieres in Yekaterinburg

Daria Porotova in the image of the Swan Princess performs in the ring

– We have a premiere in Yekaterinburg: a new number with a gymnast in the ring. 19-year-old Daria Porotova performs as the Swan Princess. Under the circus big top, and even with wings, it’s difficult. Below in the arena there are 9 people dancing ballet - it turns out aesthetically very beautiful. By the way, Daria, together with coach Marat Bikmaev, prepared the stunt part of the act in just a year - this is very little for such a serious performance, but it turned out amazing!

Tickets: 600–2000 rub.

For the performance, a huge golden Castle was designed, towering right up to the circus dome. An aerialist under a dome controls puppets. A grand piano, covered with Swarovski crystals, appears in a fabulous way on the arena. Fountains spray from the piano, among which a tightrope walker surrounded by ballerinas performs unimaginable tricks. Indian tribe and exotic animals: llamas, skunks, lemurs, wari, kangaroos, ostriches, catto lemurs, porcupines, zebras. Masters of the Spanish circus school, accompanied by yaks. Roman gladiators on chariots drawn by black horses. Dangerous stunts are performed by acrobats on counter swings. The attraction with lions and tigers “Wild World of the Jungle” is also unique: together with African lions and Sumatran tigers, white tigers appear in the arena. The main character in the cage with predators is Honored Artist of Russia Gia Eradze along with her partner Lyudmila Surkova.

Viewers have already been able to appreciate such programs of the Gia Eradze production center as “Five Continents”, “Baronets” and “Hippopotamus”, so there is no doubt that it will be of “Soviet” quality and at the same time royally chic, had to.

In the program, which is a synthesis of circus and pop art, Voronezh residents saw aerial gymnasts in crystal chandeliers, numbers with a black and white pegasus, an illusionary number “Gladiators”, during which the girl suddenly disappeared, and a lion appeared in her place... The spectators were literally breathtaking as they watched the acrobats on the counter swings under the direction of Mikhail Filinov. By the way, this act with the most complex tricks recently won a gold award at an international circus competition in China. The imagination of the ladies was shocked by the handsome tightrope walker, who performed intricate tricks on the piano from which a fountain gushes, and the men, secretly from their women, looked at the graceful ballerina with angel wings soaring in the air.

Spectators also saw amazing attractions with animals - “Lions and Tigers”, led by the winner of the international award “Circus Princess” Lyudmila Surkova, and the incendiary “Africa”, where a great variety of exotic animals were collected.

“Because of the dishonesty of producers, people stop going to the circus”

When I was a child, you could go to the circus on weekdays, and on weekends there were always several performances. Now it is unprofitable to give many performances, because people do not actively go to the circus. What do you think is the reason for this? Maybe because sometimes they bring not very high-quality shows and people are disappointed?

And with this too. Often people are simply deceived. It happens that unknown groups come to provincial cities and put up posters with a big name. I remember I talked with one distributor who carried the “Stars of Monte Carlo” program. He assured that the winners of the gold awards of the international circus competition in Monte Carlo were performing there, although I did not see a single star in the program. It turned out that this person does not even know that Monte Carlo is located in the kingdom of Monaco, located in France. He assured me that it was in Germany. What can we talk about here? Because of such unscrupulous producers, people stop going to the circus.

And the time is different now! When I joined the circus, we went on tour in mail cars. Then, like mine now, each program employed 120–130 people, a large number of animals... And this did not scare anyone. And today this is already perceived as know-how! I am a Soviet child, and I still have the energy of that generation, the mentality. I remember very well my teachers with whom I once went to the arena - Oleg Popov, Zapashnykh... And I don’t want to deviate from those circus traditions that I absorbed when I joined the circus in deep childhood. I want the circus to always remain as big as it was before. But, to my deep regret, it is now customary to do tiny solo numbers, as they say, “on the knee.” With a minimum of props. And if it’s a group number, then it’s with a small number of people.

- Why, there are also large teams. Acrobats on throwing boards Chernievsky are frequent guests in our city...

Yes, of course. And it’s good when such groups are financially supported by the Russian State Circus company, because believe me, there are few producers, like me, who do not spare money for this in the name of the quality of the program. It’s simply not profitable for rental companies to transport them; it’s too much of an expense. The number of the same Chernievsky is very expensive, which significantly increases the cost of the program. Imagine - 15 acrobats, 15 wives, and some also have children... That is, up to 40 people need to be accommodated in a hotel, fed, and all travel expenses paid. And the number lasts only 10 minutes. Yes, their attraction is amazing, the stunts are crazy, but from a financial point of view, it is not profitable. For me, quality has always come first, which is why I have five big attractions in my program. For example, in the “Counter Swing” attraction there are 9 people, in “Africa”, where a huge number of exotic animals are involved, there are 24.

Your ideas, of course, are royal and cost crazy money. Now you already have the opportunity to bring them to life by investing money from fees into the program. When you first started, where did you get your initial capital?

I was 11 years old when I ran away from home to the circus, and, of course, I had no money. And in every interview I never cease to thank the legendary producer Gennady Gordienko, who believed in me and helped me. We met in Moscow, where I left Georgia. He took me under his wing, and together with him, on January 20, 2000, we released the “Five Continents” show in Vladivostok. It’s a pity that Gennady Georgievich is no longer here, but I will always remember him with warmth.

“When I ran away from home to the circus, it was a shock for my parents.”

Your mother told me that when you ran away from home, you never asked your father for money and ate only crackers to buy your first horse.

Well, that's my mom! She won't tell you anything! In fact, my parents were initially against me becoming a circus performer. I am not a dynasty artist, I was not born in the sawdust. My father was the director of the Tbilisi Central Market, my mother taught political economics at the institute. And you can imagine their “delight” when I came home every day, all smelling of the stable - I became interested in horses and went there to clean them. It was a shock for the parents! My father wanted me to follow in his footsteps, my mother “saw” me as a doctor. At first they thought that the circus was my childhood hobby that would soon pass. And I took it and ran away from home! Only after a while my parents realized that my escapes to the circus were not childish whims, this was my life.

As for money, it really wasn’t always there. I had a pony, Odysseus, now deceased, who worked with me for 18 years! And during periods of lack of money, I took the kids for rides on it. I invested what I earned in new rooms, leaving a little for food. Sometimes there was nowhere to live, and we lived in circus dressing rooms. I went through all this, and that’s why it’s easier for me to create numbers today, the artists trust me. I don’t need to explain anything - I know what muzzle a bear should wear, what stall a camel should be placed in, and what kind of enclosure a tiger needs. I understand all the problems of artists, so I don’t skimp on fees.

But you probably also have some requirements for artists? In addition to professionalism, you probably expect them to look good?

Certainly! Is it unnoticeable? I have this thing - all artists should be beautiful! There is a certain format of people who can join my team. There will never be another format, because I have the best show in the country. This status must be maintained. For my show, I am not ashamed to look people in the eyes.

- What if suddenly the artist is good, with a strong performance, but his appearance doesn’t work out...

If he is a very talented artist, then I adapt him to our show. This is already my task as a production director. In our team we have our own stylists, our own make-up artists who do makeup for the artists. I understand that it is impossible to find all unrealistically beautiful people so that they are also masters of their craft. Therefore, it is important to create an image based on the nature of the show.

You were deputy general director of the Russian State Circus company for artistic affairs. Why did you leave this high position?

I lasted a year and realized that this was not for me. All these office-paper stories are not my play at all. I’d rather create, stage new programs and bring the next awards to the Rosgostsirk company... This will be much more useful!
